Energy Efficiency
Fisher & Paykel have a fundamental commitment to design intelligent appliances that can react to usage patterns thus saving energy and ultimately money. To have intelligence, a product must have sensors capable of detecting change, a memory or "brain" to react to that change and variable speed motors or fans to respond to what the memory commands. All our key product platforms — Active Smart™ Refrigeration, Smart Drive™ Clothes Washers and DishDrawer™ Dishwashers are intelligent appliances. Basically, if the power is not needed, it is not used, unlike "dumb" systems that are traditionally controlled by mechanical devices that cycle the product regardless of its usage. A key part of Fisher & Paykel’s commitment to the environment, including energy efficiency, is the fact that these platforms are also available within our mass-market platforms.
The Active Smart™ Refrigeration System, which saves 40% of the power of our previous refrigeration models, is on all our refrigerator/freezers above 300 litres, and this segment accounts for 67% of the Australian market.
An average household does 8 full washes per week. Using an Intuitive Eco instead of a traditional top loader will save the household approximately 500kWh of electricity consumption per annum.
Our range of clothes dryers includes two auto-sensing models that stop when drying is complete, saving power by taking human guesswork out of the process. In addition to these manufacturing initiatives, Fisher & Paykel have been actively involved with many regulatory bodies in an effort raise the profile of energy efficient appliances, and also assist in the setting of testing standards. |
